Piper admits anorexia battle | Print |
Monday, 25 September 2006
British actress Billie Piper has admitted her ongoing battle with anorexia in her new autobiography Growing pains. The 24-year-old Doctor Who star, who married English radio star Chris Evans at the age of 18, suffered from anorexia for two years before her marriage.

The stress of their split in 2004 brought the eating disorder on again for Piper, who was battling depression at the same time.

Now Piper, who is now healthy again, is determined to set a good example for young girls who have low self-esteem and are trying to lose weight.

She says: "I didn't feel qualified or ready to talk about it until I was really, really well, this year. I have to be so careful not to give them ideas on how to lose weight because that's what I used to do.

"I'd read an article in a magazine about anorexia and think: 'Ooh, I'll do that…', I was never as pretty as the other girls. My features were always too big - my jaw was too heavy, my mouth too wide."
